Job Summary

The Volunteer Project Manager (Manager) is a key member of the Corporate Volunteer Project Team, which connects corporate volunteer groups with meaningful community impact projects. The Manager oversees all aspects of event planning, including project development, relationship cultivation with partner organizations, and day-of leadership.

Job Responsibilities

Primary Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Plans and leads volunteer engagements for business partners, community-wide initiatives, special events, and disaster response.
  • Learns about the needs of community partners and the ways that businesses want to give back, then develops a scope of work that aligns with the interests of both constituents.
  • Assists in planning large-scale Days of Action events for multiple business-based partners.
  • Manage 30+ volunteer projects annually, including site visits, project staffing, supply planning, and budgeting.
  • Maintains organized project files in Salesforce records related to each volunteer project
  • Works to increase volunteer and community partner satisfaction, project impact, and internal efficiencies.
  • Collaborates with team members to ensure that the group is successful in meeting the needs of corporate and community partners.
  • Manage volunteers and volunteer sites when active in disaster while following the direction of their section chief.
  • Collaborate on the creation of promotional, social media content, and other story-telling needs.
  • Participates in staff team-building and professional development activities.
  • Understand and prepare for your unique team role in times of disaster, support community preparedness efforts, and participate in disaster response activities.
  • Provides volunteer leadership for disaster response activities, corporate projects, and special events, as needed

Qualifications

Education:

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree with 3-plus years’ experience in project management. 

Qualifications:

  • Meticulous attention to detail and organization, including superior problem-solving 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills, including presentation/public speaking ability and desire 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite specifically Excel
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups of people 
  • Ability to work with diverse constituencies and relate to individuals and groups in a manner that will inspire respect and confidence 
  • Ability to perform with minimal supervision 
  • Ability to withstand stress and handle numerous assignments simultaneously 
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage time effectively to meet deadlines 
  • Comfortable using power tools (drills, saws, augers, etc.) and driving tow-behind trailers and large box trucks.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle. Staff are reimbursed for work-related mileage.
  • Ability to pass National Service Criminal History Check, including state, federal, and sex offender databases. Drug screening may be required. 

Physical Demands:

Visual acuity, manual dexterity, hearing, driving, standing, twisting motions, squatting, walking, sitting, stooping, bending, lifting, and carrying 50 pounds.  Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform their essential duties. 

Working Conditions: 

  • Minimum of 37.5 hours per week. Based on project and event schedules, a position often requires work beyond traditional hours 
  • Flexible schedule required during disaster response, special projects, and events  
  • Work involves frequent interaction with other members of the United Way staff, volunteers, representatives of non-profit agencies, and the general public 
  • Occasional use of personal vehicle (mileage will be reimbursed) 
  • The employee is required to stand, walk, climb, and balance.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items work with the fingers and perform repetitive hand/wrist motions. 
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform repetitive squatting, bending, and twisting motions.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to increase working hours during disaster response
