Job Summary
The Skilled Trades Trainer trains program participants in basic residential construction skills and knowledge by providing classroom, safety, and limited hands-on experience for Goodwill’s Skilled Trades program. This position assists the Construction Training Manager in ensuring trainees are knowledgeable about basic safety, hand and power tools, construction math, construction drawings, communication skills, employability skills, and materials handling. At the direction of the Construction Training Manager, this position contacts local construction-related employers to coordinate opportunities for trainees to learn more about entry-level jobs in the community related to general labor and construction. The person in this position will be responsible for and assist in all aspects of administrative paperwork and documentation, as specifically related to the program and the participants.
Job Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Carpentry skills as well as foreman skills on a construction site.
- Hands-on experience in areas such as plumbing, electricity, concrete, etc.
- Be prepared. Class preparation can take place on or off premises but should be thorough and exact.
- Be flexible. Management may require the class to build projects to help Goodwill’s mission on occasion.
- Must maintain composure and be able to quickly resolve conflicts as they arise.
- Teach the core curriculum provided in accordance with NCCER standards.
- Establish personal relationships with students to help them achieve their goals.
Qualifications
Education
- High School diploma or GED certificate
- NCCER certified or will acquire within three months of employment
Certifications and Licenses
- Current, valid driver’s license
- NCCER certification
