Job Summary
The National Association of Social Workers, Tennessee Chapter (NASW-TN) is the professional association for social workers in Tennessee.
The NASW-TN Program Director will work in partnership with the NASW-TN Executive Director to design and implement a strong Continuing Education and Professional Development program for social work professionals, students, and others serving children and families in Tennessee.
NASW-TN recognizes that our core constituents are professional social workers across Tennessee. The Program Director will focus on developing programming to increase professional skills and will assume the lead role in envisioning additional ways NASW-TN can expand our services and increase our involvement to strengthen both the social work profession and services for children and families in Tennessee.
Job Responsibilities
- Work with NASW TN Chapter Continuing Education Committee to identify continuing education needs for social work professionals, students, and others serving children and families in Tennessee.
- Develop and implement an annual Continuing Education plan that includes workshops and conferences. (Chapter and branch-level events, Social Work Day on the Hill, etc.)
- Coordinate NASW-TN CEU Approval Program.
- Support NASW-TN Branch leaders in their efforts to provide education and networking events that improve social work services at a community level. (Note: The Program Director and Policy and Engagement Coordinator will collaborate in these efforts)
- Work in partnership with the Executive Director to identify and develop association programs, research, and services to respond to the needs of NASW-TN members, other social work professionals, and students, and that improves services for families and children in Tennessee.
- Serve as NASW-TN Representative on relevant task forces and groups.
- Compile and disseminate information and resources to help members improve their practice.
- Assist with other activities related to the Chapter’s ongoing operations.
Working Relationships
Internal
- Interact with Chapter staff, volunteers, and members. Due to the size of the Chapter staff, this position will work closely with the Chapter Executive Director to ensure coordination of overall Chapter activities.
External
- Represent NASW-TN in relevant external task forces and committees.
- Collaborate with other staff in maintaining strong working relationships with social work programs across Tennessee.
Qualifications
Knowledge
- MSW or BSW degree with two years of professional experience
- Project management and implementation skills
- Knowledge of professional social work issues
- Understanding of child & family issues
Experience
- Minimum of two years of practice experience in association management and/or administrative social work
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work at multiple levels in program development from identifying needed programs to implementation of day-to-day program details
- Demonstrated commitment to modeling ethical social work practice
- Demonstrated communication skills with a variety of audiences
- Demonstrated strong critical thinking skills
- Demonstrated skills in multitasking
- Demonstrated skills in utilizing technology (social media, website, communication software) for event marketing and member engagement
- Ability to work at multiple levels in program development from identifying needed programs to implementation of day-to-day program details
- Strong computer skills including the ability to utilize the internet and websites for information dissemination
- Strong commitment to customer/member services
Other
- Knowledge of clinical social work issues preferred
- The position requires statewide travel
- Must be able to lift 20+ lbs
- Marketing, event sponsorship development, and public relations skills a plus
- Supervision This position is supervised by the Executive Director.
