Job Summary
The Peer Coordinator will oversee the operations of the Medicaid Alternative Pathways to Independence (MAPs) Peer Mentoring Program at The Arc of Tennessee. This position will initially focus on the hiring and training of key staff and the development of a three-year strategic plan for the program, which includes creating a steering/advisory committee made up of stakeholders such as family members, MAPs providers, participants, and self-advocates. The coordinator will also be responsible for recruiting, onboarding, training, and supporting peer mentors, ensuring program success through continuous stakeholder engagement and effective implementation.

Key Responsibilities
Program Development & Strategic Planning
- Collaborate with the Director of Advocacy to develop a comprehensive three-year strategic plan for the Peer Mentoring Program.
- Establish and lead a steering/advisory committee, consisting of family members, MAPs providers, participants, and self-advocates, to guide the development, evaluation, and improvement of the program.
- Oversee the creation and execution of an onboarding plan for mentors, ensuring that all new hires are effectively integrated into the program.
Peer Mentor Recruitment and Support, Onboarding & Training
- Lead the recruitment and selection of Peer Mentors, ensuring diversity and alignment with program goals.
- Provide comprehensive onboarding and training for new mentors, including training on confidentiality, professional conduct, MAPs program goals, person-centered support, and the DDA customized training curriculum.
- Facilitate DDA-customized training for peer mentors, ensuring they are well-equipped to provide guidance, goal-setting support, and community resource connections.
- Coordinate and manage mentor-mentee matches, while providing ongoing support to Peer Mentors, including regular check-ins, performance reviews, and guidance on mentor-mentee interactions.
- Establish and maintain a feedback loop, conducting quarterly surveys and focus groups to evaluate program effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
Stakeholder & Community Engagement
- Work with the Director of Advocacy to engage stakeholders, including MAPs providers, participants, families, and advocacy groups.
- Leverage The Arc Tennessee’s statewide network by collaborating with local Chapters of The Arc, Pre-ETS providers, Centers for Independent Living (CILs), and advocacy groups to expand outreach and recruitment.
- Utilize community events and outreach platforms (e.g., People First Tennessee) to promote the program and foster new partnerships.
Program Reporting & Quality Monitoring
- Maintain accurate documentation of mentor activities, participant engagement, and program outcomes.
- Submiting monthly progress reports, detailing mentor training, service delivery, and areas requiring improvement.
- Utilize evaluation metrics to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for program growth.
Qualifications
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience).
- Experience in program coordination, peer mentoring, or direct service work in the ID/DD community, with a strong understanding of disability advocacy preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to develop and implement outreach, training, and recruitment strategies.
- Knowledge of person-centered practices and commitment to inclusive program development.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and virtual meeting platforms (Zoom, Teams, etc.).
- Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel as needed.
