Position Description:
The Membership Experience Manager is responsible for the acquisition, stewardship, and retention of Adventure Science Center (ASC) members, and cultivating members that lead to securing and expanding the donor base. This position will successfully accomplish membership goals by working creatively and strategically with ASC leadership and staff, especially the Chief Development Officer (CDO), Guest Services, Marketing, Education, and Development teams. The Membership Experience Manager is also responsible for the development and overseeing of the individual donor societies and their annual exclusive programs.
Job Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage membership campaigns, with support from the Development and Database Coordinator (DDC), including new member acquisition, monthly renewal, and lapsed renewal mailings, online membership processing, community outreach campaigns, and prospecting and cultivation mailings. Create and implement strategies to increase membership and retention.
- With CDO, create and execute strategies that strengthen relationships with current members and encourage members to become donors.
- Oversee the creation and administration of member premiums and benefits. Evaluate existing membership premiums for an appeal to members and cost to the organization. Conceptualize innovative ways of recognizing and engaging members.
- Work with the Events Manager and DDC to plan and coordinate member and donor events.
- Develop, write, and manage membership appeals by collaborating with ASC colleagues on design, content, and branding issues for all print pieces related to membership, appeals, and donor stewardship.
- Manage membership content on the ASC website.
- Identify and cultivate members to grow annual support through donations, including the development and growth of donor societies.
- Provide exceptional customer service to current and prospective museum members and donors. Handle member inquiries by phone, mail, and email.
- In partnership with DDC and ASC colleagues, ensure that all membership gifts are accurately acknowledged and benefits fulfilled in a timely manner, including membership cards, premiums, and newsletters.
- Analyze membership and donor data, and maintain accurate and up-to-date reports, records, filing, and information management.
- Collaborate with the Operations and Marketing teams to implement membership cultivation and retention programs, including administering visitor surveys, admission membership sales, incentive programs, and special offers.
- Willingness and ability to work some evenings and weekends as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of successful membership and/or development experience, preferably in a museum or nonprofit setting.
- Bachelor’s degree and/or fundraising certification or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
- Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Outstanding organizational skills and good judgment. Comfortable juggling multiple tasks/deadlines simultaneously. Skilled at troubleshooting and problem-solving.
- Self-motivator who thinks strategically.
- Able to work successfully both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Proficiency with CRM applications such as Altru or Raiser’s Edge, plus MS Office software.
- Enthusiasm for ASC’s exhibits, programs, and mission.
Environmental Conditions and Physical Demands:
- The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations.
- Typically, walking, standing, bending, and carrying light items (up to 20 pounds unassisted), and 50lbs assisted are required. At times, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. Also, the employee must have manual dexterity and visual and auditory acuity.
- Some repetitive motion is involved.
