Job Summary
The Mary Parrish Center (MPC) is a nonprofit human service organization that is dedicated to providing housing and support services for survivors who are homeless or in need of housing as a result of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, and/or human trafficking. Our mission is to provide survivors of interpersonal violence and their children safe, accessible, and compassionate housing with individualized care that promotes healing, autonomy, and hope.
The MPC seeks a highly motivated and compassionate individual to fill its Housing Navigator position. Through our partnership with Metro Nashville’s Office of Family Safety, the Housing Navigator will provide housing-first, trauma-informed, survivor-centered direct services to high-risk survivors at The Family Safety Center. This is an exempt, full-time grant-funded position, reporting directly to the Director of Programs.
Job Responsibilities
- Assists households in locating and securing housing of their choice; including accompanying them to apartment showings, and assistance with housing applications and paperwork.
- Develop, establish, and maintain professional working relationships with landlords and property managers.
- Apply knowledge of residential lease contracts to educate program participants on their rights and responsibilities.
- Work with the Coordinated Entry Specialists to identify and assist households on the Domestic Violence Coordinated Entry By-Name List.
- Maintain awareness of changes in the market and community that can impact services, and bring forward recommendations to deal with expected changes.
- Participate in staff meetings and trainings.
- Actively participate in appropriate community meetings.
- Maintain client and program confidentiality.
- Maintain all necessary documentation and records.
- Work with participants, co-workers, supervisor, community partners, and all other relevant stakeholders in a manner that is consistent with and promotes The MPC’s ethical commitments and organizational values.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Preferred
- Demonstrated ability to understand and implement best practices around services for at-risk individuals and families.
- Experience in providing advocacy or other equivalent experience working with individuals affected by complex traumas.
- A working knowledge of housing, real estate, tenant and landlord rights and responsibilities is preferred.
- People-oriented with a demonstrated ability to build rapport and gain trust with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability and willingness to work irregular hours (some evenings) when survivor needs dictate.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, both written and oral, and prompt response to messages.
- Able to maintain confidentiality, as required by law and in the best interests of survivors, staff, and the agency.
- Valid driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation
