Job Summary

The Food Security Coordinator operates the Center’s Food Pantry and Meals on Wheels programs.  This position helps the Center meet its goal of empowering healthy families and individuals, many of whom live in “food deserts,” by providing healthy food, as well as access to support and/or emergency assistance as an integrated part of the string of individual and family resources at the Center. 

Job Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Food Pantry:

  • Engage clients and create a welcoming environment
  • Empower clients in client-choice food pantries, and provide helpful nutrition resources
  • Maintains database on clients and maintains communication with our partner, Second Harvest, including running reports.
  • Determines eligibility of potential clients.
  • Unloads food deliveries,
  • Stocks shelves and keeps inventory.
  • Oversees work of volunteer staff.
  • Maintains a clean working environment

Meals on Wheels:

  • Recruits, coordinates, and communicates with meal delivery volunteers.
  • Maintains route schedules; delivers meals as needed.
  • Monitor the needs of clients, and maintain regular contact
  • Provides nutrition information to customers
  • Provides referrals to other needed services from the Center or partner agencies; identifies potential crisis situations and connects clients with appropriate social services and support.
  • Maintains data on clients and services, including United Way reporting, and reporting on value-added services such as client referrals and crisis intervention.
  • Works closely with the grants team to seek and apply for funds, especially through Meals on Wheels grant opportunities.
  • Looks for and implements program improvements through customer feedback, and networking.

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • One or more years of experience providing social services to a high-risk elderly and/or family population.

  • Computer literate including familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet, database, desktop publishing software, email, and the internet.

Special Demands:

The special demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a staff member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Current, valid driver’s license.
  • Reliable transportation.
