Oak Hill School is a premier elementary school serving preschool to Grade 6 in Nashville, TN. With a rich history spanning decades, Oak Hill educates children in a nurturing Christian environment, preparing them for a lifetime of learning and service. Our school boasts outstanding academics, healthy finances, strong enrollment, and a robust endowment. The School will soon launch an exciting capital campaign representing our commitment to enhance our campus and provide our students with a track and field facility.

As we embark on this new chapter, we seek a dynamic Director of Finance to join our vibrant community starting July 1, 2024. We envision the primary role of the DOF as an important strategic partner to the Head of School, Board of Trustees, and Administrative Team, shaping the future of the school.

Job Overview

The Director of Finance is an administrative position responsible for overseeing the financial operations and human resources management of the school. The Director of Finance plays a crucial role in strategic planning, financial analysis, budgeting, compliance, and personnel management to ensure the school’s financial health and operational efficiency.

Job Responsibilities

Financial Management

  • Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the school’s mission and goals.
  • Prepare and manage the annual budget in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
  • Monitor financial performance and provide regular reports to the Head of School and Board of Directors.
  • Conduct financial analysis and forecasting to support decision-making processes.
  • Oversee cash flow management, investments, and risk assessment. 

Accounting and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate accounting records and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Coordinate audits and reviews, addressing any findings or recommendations. 

Human Resources Management

  • Develop and implement HR policies, procedures, and programs in compliance with employment laws and regulations.
  • Oversee recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and retention of staff.
  • Manage employee benefits, compensation, performance evaluations, and professional development.
  • Address employee relations issues and promote a positive work culture. 

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, tax laws, and reporting requirements.
  • Implement internal controls and risk management protocols to safeguard assets and mitigate risks.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and legal developments related to finance and HR. 

Fundraising Support

  • Collaborate with the administrative team to develop and execute future fundraising campaigns and efforts.
  • Lead financial planning and analysis for capital projects, including fundraising efforts and resource allocation.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and reporting standards for fundraising initiatives.

Support Staff Oversight

  • Supervise support staff, including the Accounting Manager, Human Resource Specialist, and School Receptionist, to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
  • Supervise and support technology staff in developing and maintaining IT infrastructure and systems.
  • Foster a collaborative and productive work environment, providing mentorship and professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the IT team to implement technological solutions that enhance operational efficiency and security, while providing guidance on budgeting for IT initiatives.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, and provide constructive feedback and support for employee growth and development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience in fiscal management, budgeting, and accounting, preferably in an educational or nonprofit setting.
  • Strong knowledge of HR principles, employment laws, and best practices.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Effective leadership, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficiency in financial software, spreadsheet applications, and HR management systems.

Work Environment

The Director of Finance will primarily work in an office environment within the school campus. Attendance at daily school activities and extracurricular activities to demonstrate support for students, faculty, and families is required. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to address urgent financial or other school matters.
