Job Summary
The Nashville Jazz Workshop (NJW) is a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching lives and building community through jazz education and performance. NJW provides world-class jazz instruction, concerts, and community engagement opportunities, serving both aspiring musicians and jazz enthusiasts.
The Nashville Jazz Workshop is seeking a dynamic and passionate Director of Development to lead and implement fundraising strategies that support the organization’s mission and growth. This full-time position plays a pivotal role in building relationships with donors, securing grants, and creating partnerships with individuals and corporations. The Director of Development will work closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to achieve fundraising goals and elevate NJW’s impact in the community.
Job Responsibilities
- Fundraising Strategy: Develop and execute comprehensive fundraising plans to increase financial support from individual donors, foundations, and corporate sponsors.
- Grant Writing: Research, write, and submit grant proposals and reports to secure funding from private foundations, government agencies, and other grant-making entities.
- Donor Relations: Cultivate and maintain relationships with current and prospective donors through personalized outreach, events, and consistent communication.
- Corporate Partnerships: Identify and secure new sponsorship opportunities and strategic partnerships with businesses and corporations.
- Event Planning: Collaborate on fundraising events, donor appreciation events, and community engagement activities to enhance visibility and support for NJW.
- Data Management: Oversee donor database, ensuring accurate record-keeping, tracking of contributions, and timely acknowledgments.
- Board Collaboration: Work with the Board of Directors to engage their networks and support fundraising initiatives.
- Communications: Assist with the creation of development-related content for NJW’s website, newsletters, social media, and other marketing materials.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, Communications, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, or a related role.
- Proven success in grant writing, securing major gifts, and building corporate partnerships.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and engage donors and stakeholders.
- Experience planning and executing fundraising events.
- Proficiency in donor management software (ideally Salesforce) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Passion for the arts, music education, and community engagement — knowledge of jazz is a plus.
- Self-motivated, organized, and goal-oriented with a collaborative spirit.
