Job Summary

The Nashville Business Incubation Center (NBIC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering the growth and development of small business owners, particularly women, minorities, and veterans, through comprehensive business support, mentorship, and a results-driven curriculum. The Development Manager is a key leadership role responsible for managing and cultivating a portfolio of existing investors, corporate sponsors, and strategic partners while creating a pipeline of new prospects to support NBIC’s fundraising efforts. This position focuses on securing funding through grants, corporate partnerships, individual donors, and sponsorships. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who thrives on relationship-building and has a strong background in nonprofit development and fundraising.

This role reports to the Director of Operations and Finance and the CEO and will work closely with internal teams to advance NBIC’s fundraising goals and drive revenue generation through donor cultivation and stewardship.

Job Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Development and Fundraising

  • Identify, research, and cultivate prospective individual donors, corporate sponsors, and foundation partners to build a diversified funding portfolio.
  • Manage an active portfolio of current and prospective corporate and individual supporters to secure major gifts and sponsorships of $25,000 or more.
  • Write and submit grant proposals, ensuring alignment with NBIC’s mission and funding goals, and track grant reporting deadlines.
  • Collaborate with the CEO, Board of Directors, and staff to establish and meet or exceed annual fundraising goals.
  • Develop strategies to engage, solicit, and retain donors through stewardship activities, personalized communication, and events.
  • Track donor contributions, pledges, and acknowledgments to ensure accurate record-keeping and compliance with donor intent.

Donor and Corporate Relations

  • Build and manage relationships with key stakeholders, including corporate sponsors, foundations, and major donors, fostering long-term partnerships.
  • Develop and execute a donor engagement plan, including personalized communication, recognition opportunities, and updates on NBIC’s impact.
  • Lead and participate in high-level meetings and presentations with prospective donors and partners.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and leadership team to represent NBIC at external events and networking opportunities to strengthen relationships with funders.

Performance Metrics and Reporting

  • Develop, track, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to fundraising activities, donor retention, and revenue goals.
  • Prepare monthly reports for the Executive Director and Board of Directors summarizing fundraising progress and recommending adjustments to strategies.
  • Ensure accurate data processing, donor recognition, and proper documentation of all fundraising activities.

Event Coordination for Fundraising Purposes

  • Collaborate with the leadership team to plan and execute fundraising events, ensuring the events align with the organization’s revenue and engagement goals.
  • Oversee event logistics, including securing sponsorships, identifying in-kind donations, and coordinating necessary permits and vendors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business, public relations, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, or grant writing.
  • Proven ability to secure major gifts and corporate sponsorships of $25,000 or more.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience writing compelling grant proposals and donor reports.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and ability to engage corporate sponsors and individual donors.
  • Proficiency in donor management software or CRM systems, and experience tracking donations and grants.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing a diverse funding portfolio that includes grants, corporate sponsors, and individual donors.
  • Knowledge of fundraising trends and best practices in nonprofit development.
  • Familiarity with the business landscape and community partners in Nashville.
  • The employee MUST be based in Nashville.
