Job Summary
The Development Director will craft a plan for and implement a comprehensive fundraising program that encompasses all facets of a well-balanced development approach for securing funds — including capacity building, donor cultivation, grant writing and administration, event planning, and fund development. The Development Director will coordinate with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and Development Committee to identify near and long-term fundraising objectives, determine methods to track the performance of significant philanthropic resources from individuals, corporations, and foundations
Reports To
The Development Director shall report to the Executive Director and will work with the Board of Directors, and Development Committee and serve in a public and donor-facing capacity.
Job Responsibilities
Donor relations
- Leads organizational fundraising, including planned, annual, and deferred, giving approaches to individuals, institutional giving (foundations), and corporations.
- Develop and maintain major donor portfolios for themselves and leadership, supporting relationships with key donors alongside the Executive Team and Board.
Grant writing and administration
- Researches and submits grant proposals maintains grant calendar and funder relationship management.
- Manages all aspects of grant reporting, including tracking deliverables, budget reconciliation, and impact assessment.
Events
- Works closely with the Executive Director to set event calendars, budgets, timelines, and logistics to meet financial goals.
- Cultivates and manages partnerships with sponsors, vendors, and community partners to maximize event visibility and fundraising potential.
- Provides comprehensive support for external, internal, and special events, including attending meetings, coordinating with vendors, staff, and volunteers, and managing event setup, load-out, assessments, and compliance.
Compliance
- Works closely with the Executive Director, Executive Committee (including Board Chair and Treasurer), and any contracted professionals in order to complete annual financial audits, and food audits and to comply with applicable federal, state, and local reporting requirements.
- Works closely with the Executive Director in order to submit grant applications, maintain grant compliance, and report to major funders.
Nourish Team
- Recruit and coach fundraising volunteers for service on relevant event committees as well as the Development Committee.
- May serve as a spokesperson for Nourish with community organizations, press outlets, prospective funders, and other key stakeholders leading up to and during events or on an as-needed basis as the fundraising face of Nourish.
- Participates in regular staff and committee meetings.
- Ability to work independently, self-motivate, and take initiative.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of direct experience in a similar role fundraising or capacity-building role for a growing non-profit (budget of at least $1M).
- Proven ability to identify grant opportunities that align with the mission of Nourish. This includes the research toward and development of grant proposals that ensure accuracy and adherence to compliance requirements.
- Experience in identifying potential donors and foundations for philanthropic partnerships and the ability to develop strategies to cultivate and sustain those relationships.
- Experience in managing large-scale and long-term fund development campaigns.
- Experience in building, maintaining, and utilizing a CRM platform from lead inception to tracking performance indices and reporting measurable outcomes.
- Direct experience in conceptualizing, promoting, and producing fundraising events.
- Direct experience building a fundraising plan, leading teams of volunteers, and collaborating with community and philanthropic partners.
