ABOUT TENNESSEE JUSTICE FOR OUR NEIGHBORS:

Tennessee Justice for Our Neighbors (“TNJFON”) is a non-profit law firm that represents clients in immigration matters, educates the community about immigration law and policy, and advocates for the rights of immigrants. We represent immigrants who are eligible for humanitarian forms of relief such as asylum, DACA, Special Immigrant Juvenile status, T visas, Temporary Protected Status, U visas, and relief under VAWA. Every member of our staff plays a critical role in fulfilling the TNJFON mission.

Position Overview:

The Development & Communications Assistant will support the Executive Director in executing fundraising strategies and initiatives. This role is crucial in maintaining and growing the financial health of our organization through donor engagement, event planning, grant writing, and database management. Additionally, the Development Assistant will provide assistance to the legal team primarily through translation and interpretation support to ensure effective communication between clients and lawyers. The ideal candidate must be fluent in Spanish and English. This position will also provide general administrative support to the team.

Job Responsibilities

Translation and Interpretation Support:

  • Provide translation services for written documents, including legal forms, correspondence, and informational materials.
  • Assist lawyers by interpreting during client meetings, interviews, and court appearances as needed.
  • Ensure accuracy and confidentiality in all translation and interpretation tasks.

Donor Relations and Communications:

  • Assist in the cultivation and stewardship of donors, including sending thank-you letters, newsletters, and other communications.
  • Manage donor database, ensuring accurate records of contributions and donor information.

Fundraising and Events:

  • Support the planning and execution of fundraising events, including logistics, invitations, and follow-up.
  • Assist in developing and distributing promotional materials for fundraising campaigns and events.

Grant Writing and Reporting:

  • Research potential grant opportunities.
  • Maintain a calendar of grant deadlines and ensure timely submission of proposals and reports.

Marketing and Outreach:

  • Collaborate with the team to create content for social media, newsletters, and the organization’s website.
  • Manage website content and updates.
  • Assist in developing outreach strategies to engage the community and potential donors.

Administrative Support:

  • Handle general administrative tasks such as scheduling meetings, taking notes, and organizing files. 
  • Assist in the preparation of reports and presentations for the Executive Director and Board of Directors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience in a non-profit, legal, or fundraising environment is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish required.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with donor management software.
  • Proficiency in Canva and experience with creating development assets and toolkits.
  • Must have a positive demeanor; poised and comfortable in relating to a variety of people in multiple settings.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Must support a compassionate, supportive work environment for interns, volunteers,

  • Preference is given to experience working with trauma survivors.
  • Preference is given to experience working with social media marketing.
  • Experience with Squarespace and Mailchimp preferred.
