Accounting: A Focus on Internal Controls (In-Person)

Learn how to evaluate and design your organization’s internal control environment from the top down. Together with CPA and nonprofit accounting expert, Kim Thomason, you will explore the best practices of internal controls including the following needed elements: compliance with laws and regulations, reliability of financial reporting, and the effectiveness and efficiency of your operations. This course will review local and state regulations as well as the IRS handbook on nonprofit compliance. (Lunch is provided.)

Learning Objectives:

• Learn how to design your day-to-day procedures and policies to avoid potential fraudulent acts within the organization
• Discover what the IRS is viewing as pertinent compliance objectives with your tax-exempt status
• Discover ways that both your staff and board of directors will take part in your organization’s internal control environment
