Job Summary

Mental Health America of the MidSouth (MHA) has a part-time position available for a Spanish-speaking Case Manager, who can help connect victims of human trafficking to public benefits, health, mental health, legal, and financial resources.  The clients served are foreign-born nationals (most from Central America), and many speak Spanish or an Indigenous language. 

MHA is a 75-year-old, Nashville-based agency that believes there is no health without mental health.  In the landscape of behavioral health, MHA provides education, advocacy, and referrals to get people the right help at the right time.  MHA programs and services focus on academic/student success, Alzheimer’s support, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), home study and post-release services for unaccompanied children, recovery from human trafficking, professional conferences offering CEUs, community workshops, mental health screenings, suicide prevention, and more. 

Job Responsibilities

Employee shall perform the following services for the term of the agreement for the Trafficking Victims Assistance Program (TVAP)

• Assess eligibility of clients and potential clients to enroll in TVAP services
• Provide culturally and linguistically appropriate comprehensive case management for TVAP clients
• Assess the safety and appropriateness of clients on an ongoing basis using child welfare principles and social work best practices
• Conduct calls, ongoing assessments, and home visits with trafficking survivors and developing individual case plans with attention to culture, language, and special circumstances
• Advocate on clients’ behalf with the police, District Attorney’s Offices, U.S. Attorney’s Offices, FBI, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), public benefits agencies, courts, medical providers and other relevant organizations
• Maintain case/client files, submit written reports as required, and keep accurate reports for grant and regulatory purposes, maintain accurate case records and program statistics in compliance with funding requirements and objectives, and assist with case management reimbursement contracts (including client spending limits, contract reports, and monthly billing)
• Provide phone and in-person case management services to foreign national survivors of human trafficking (both minor and adult), completing comprehensive needs assessments, and explaining and coordinating the services and benefits offered by the Trafficking Victims Assistance Program (TVAP)
• Develop and maintain strong contacts with referral agencies in the area and the surrounding region and provide clients with information and referrals to outside services for themselves and their relevant family members
• Provide information, education, referrals, outreach, advocacy, and support to ensure that each client receives the services he or she requires, as well as the services for which they are eligible
• Participate in regular training and communication sessions with on-site casework supervisor and headquarters staff
• Submit records, check requests, and reimbursement paperwork to Finance Director of Mental Health America of the MidSouth in a timely manner each month in order to be paid or reimbursed for travel
• Meet regularly with Mental Health America of the MidSouth Program Director
• Conduct community presentations about the program’s scope and effectiveness as needed

Qualifications

Fluency in Spanish is required.  Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with degree in the field of psychology, social work, education, or similar social services field.  Training in trauma-informed care and/or survivor best practices preferred. MHA appreciates candidates who have cultural and linguistic competencies, have worked with TVAP victims or programs, have taught ESL courses to individuals or classrooms, have experience with grant-funded programs, and have a passion to serve and restore vulnerable populations.

The final candidate must be approved by the United States Center for Refugees and Immigrants.  Before having access to the case load, the candidate must complete extensive training.
