Job Summary
Responsible for the successful execution of a rehabilitation program specific to the inmate experience. This supports the mission of Retrieving Independence to change lives through counseling services and the dignity of purposeful work.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead the strategy for curriculum initiatives.
- Hands-on teaching with prison teams and individual inmates.
- Coordinate with the Director of Counseling & Research to ensure practices align in all prisons and with all clients/caregivers.
- Maintain private communication and counseling through the prison journals.
- Attend and assist where needed at Client Training Camp – to include checking in regularly with clients for mental well-being and bonding with their new service dog.
- Service dog recipient application medical review, with distribution to the team for interview and final decision.
- Adhere to all ADI guidelines.
- Attend monthly staff meeting.
Qualifications
Education: Advanced degree (master’s or above) in counseling discipline required. Hold a current license to practice in the State of Tennessee.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years related experience.
Other: Proficient with MS Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
This position reports to the CEO.

The position is part-time (10 hours/week) with an annual salary of $10,500, prorated from a full-time equivalent of $42,000
This is a part-time position with some flexibility but with designated hours on location(s). RI has a generous PTO policy.
