Job Summary

The Tennessee Naturalist Program is designed to teach adults about the natural history of Tennessee through professional instruction and to encourage participants to volunteer for environmental agencies. Upon completion of the program and requirements, participants become certified Tennessee naturalists.

The Tennessee Naturalist Program is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) with an all-volunteer board of directors. We are seeking new volunteer board members for a two-year term beginning in March 2025. The duties and commitments of all board members include: 

  • Attending quarterly Zoom meetings for important discussions and decisions regarding the program’s operation and mission. 
  • Serving on ad hoc committees as needed.
  • Completing additional tasks for the program as needed.

In addition to having a passion for natural history education, conservation, and stewardship, we are seeking new board members with experience and expertise as Treasurer.

Job Responsibilities

  • Financial Oversight: Review and provide guidance on budgeting, accounting, and financial management processes. 
  • Budget Development: Work with the board and committees to develop annual and project-specific budgets. 
  • Financial Reporting: Assist in preparing and presenting financial reports, including P+L, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, to the board.
  • Oversight: Double-checking financials, bookkeeping, Quickbooks, payments due, etc.

Qualifications

  • Background in accounting, finance, or nonprofit financial management.
  • Familiarity with basic bookkeeping, budgeting, and reporting.
