About the Role
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee seeks a Director of Marketing and Communications who will thrive in a growing organization that is dedicated to positively impacting more youth through professionally supported, 1-to-1 mentoring. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and implementing on-brand, mission-aligned marketing, and communications strategy and campaigns, across all channels and collateral (traditional, digital, social, events, and public relations) to advance BBBSMT’s brand identity; broaden awareness of its programs, impact, and priorities across key stakeholder audiences as well as support agency awareness, engagement, volunteer recruitment, and fundraising objectives. Responsibilities will include the development of content strategy and editorial communications calendar, day-to-day management and optimization of digital platforms (website, social, email, blog) as well as quarterly analytics/dashboard reporting to ensure agency marketing and communications objectives are being met. This skilled, relational leader will demonstrate a commitment to achieving outcomes, champion the agency’s brand and communications strategy, and demonstrate innovation and creativity.
Job Responsibilities
Day to day:
Leadership & Strategy
- Implement BBBSMT’s integrated strategic marketing and communications plan to advance BBBSMT’s strategic priorities across key internal and external stakeholders
- Support the Chief Advancement Officer in fundraising and recruitment initiatives by developing responsive, multi-channel creative campaigns and efforts
- Lead ongoing efforts to assess new and innovative technologies that would enhance the BBBS brand experience and marketing efforts.
- Inspire, coach, and lead the Communications Manager toward accountable, goal-based outcomes with regular meetings, 1:1’s, and open, direct, and respectful communication
- Guide the strategy and execution of crisis communication and press outreach, including messaging, creation of press releases, press kits and materials, interview preparation, and responses to media requests.
- Track and measure progress toward annual department and agency goals as informed by the strategic marketing and communications plans. Deliver reports on progress toward goals and responsive recommendations
Marketing & Communications
- Develop and implement content strategy and editorial calendar across mail, website, social media, blog, and email marketing platforms. Create, write, and publish dynamic content in accordance with brand guidelines
- Direct all key aspects of market understanding and promotion, including audience definition and segmentation, branding, positioning, key messages, and development of promotional materials.
- Collect and manage consumer insights and market research to make data-driven decisions.
- Monitor and implement emerging industry trends and best practices to ensure the continued relevance of the BBBS brand and marketing efforts.
- Manage digital platform engagement and performance, ensure integrity and functionality of all content and engagement tools as well and execute ongoing content updates to support agency-wide strategic objectives
- Consistently optimize digital platform experience and performance as well as deliver quarterly digital dashboards including recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Plan and execute media campaigns and advertising buys. Ensure consistency of key messages and brand identity as well as tracking of return on investment
- Oversees publicity and media relations efforts to promote the agency, its executives, and subject matter experts along with issues relating to youth development to increase brand and impact awareness across the service area. Cultivate and maintain key media relationships and strategic partnerships
- Manage external creative, media, and web development vendors to ensure optimal delivery of the scope of work
- Maintain and lead the implementation of CBS’s style and language guides to ensure that the organization’s voice, content, and graphic standards are represented in all agency communications
- Work in partnership with the other functions of the Advancement team (development & recruitment), as well as Program and Operations colleagues/functions to maximize efficiency and impact
Agency Mission & Success
- Serve as a proactive and creative problem-solver who brings passion, enthusiasm, and innovation to the Advancement team and agency as a whole
- Assist in agency-wide events and initiatives including recruitment, fundraising, event management, and community outreach
- Collaborate with Programs and Operations teams to support strategic objectives, program launch and promotion, grant fulfillment, and database reporting
- Ensure that internal and external communications, public relations strategies, and campaigns align with and demonstrate our agency’s commitment to Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
- Assist with agency priorities centered on resource development (relationships, resources, tools)
- Support and attend agency functions, both advancement-specific and broader agency events
- Participate in professional training as provided by the agency and the National office to achieve maximum development of professional skills when required
Qualifications
About You
This Job May Be For You…
- Proficient in the digital marketing space with an exceptional understanding of and passion for website management digital media, social media, mobile, and email marketing including content strategy, editorial calendar, content development, publishing, and optimization including analytics reporting
- Understanding of SEO, Content Management Systems (CMS), HTML, and basic CSS principles. Comfortable with basic website troubleshooting with the ability to make ongoing recommendations for improvement of User Experience (UX)
- Experience with video and graphic content design, production, and storytelling
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Canva, Hootsuite, Constant Contact, Google Analytics, and Ads. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud
- Content creation and copywriting ability. Understanding of production specifications and requirements for asset delivery across multiple platforms
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, follow-through, and communication skills
- Commitment to meeting goals and deadlines. Skilled in identifying potential obstacles and ensuring resolution. Clear communication of progress to goals.
- Relationship focused, team player with the desire to innovate and collaborate
- Ability to manage external vendors to deliver best-in-class service

- Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
- 5-7 years of relevant marketing communications expertise inclusive of people management experience
- Demonstrated experience developing and supervising high-performing direct reports
- Experience in copywriting, graphic design, website management, advertisement, social media management, and video production/editing is preferred
