Objectives:

  • The Production Manager supervises the technical staff and manages resources within the Technical Department for the efficient management and maintenance of a state-of-the-art, multi-venue performing arts complex
  • Supervise the technical staff in the absence of the Director of Production and Senior Production Manager.
  • Assist the Director of Production and Senior Production Manager in managing the use of equipment and maintenance of the facility. Coordinates with various TPAC departments in the operation of the theaters.
  • Process billing for productions for the Technical Department.
  • Act as liaison with outside agencies for the operation of theaters.

Job Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, interview, hire, and supervise part-time roster with input from the Director of Production and Senior Production Manager. Duties include training, scheduling, and performance reviews.
  • Serve as Event Department Head as needed (up to 30% of job duties, including evening and weekend hours).
  • Review and process event billing, part-time payroll, and labor estimates.
  • Understanding I.A.T.S.E. Union Agreements to assist with preparing stagehand and wardrobe estimates and reviewing payroll.
  • Assist with technical advances for engagements.
  • Oversee Worker’s Compensation reporting and monitoring for part-time stagehands.
  • The above-listed duties are not all-inclusive.  This position is expected to perform other work-related duties as assigned even though they may not be considered primary duties.

Qualifications

Skills and Knowledge:

Required: 

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 7-10 years related experience and/ or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Highly adept in organizational, communication, and computer skills.
  • Experience in recruiting & hiring.
  • In-depth knowledge of theatrical systems including rigging, lighting, audio, and carpentry.
  • Ability to manage staff and equipment.
  • Ability to manage inventories and maintenance of all theaters and support spaces.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Highly Preferred:

  • Previous venue experience.

Preferred:

  • Forklift-certified, OSHA-certified

Software & Services Used:

  • Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word
  • ADP Workforce Now, Concur, Connecteam, Momentus

Frequent Functions & Working Conditions:

  • Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to clearly communicate verbally and written.
  • Ability to work alone and as a team.
  • Able to work in different environments such as indoors in dark theaters, and outdoors in different elements.
  • Able and comfortable working around mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, pressurized equipment, and moving objects.
  • Able to work in a theatrical setting with loud noises, different lighting settings (colors, strobe lights, etc.), theatrical pyrotechnics, etc.
  • Able and comfortable working at heights/elevations.

Occasional Functions:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
