Job Summary

The Resident Assistant will be responsible for supervising the residential life of our scholar moms. The priorities of the RA are the health and welfare of our scholars and the fostering of community within the group. The RA is expected to live in a community with our scholars, providing a warm and engaged presence. The position is structured such that applicants can attend school or work during the day while still providing coverage at night.

Job Responsibilities

  • Encourage, support, and BE WITH scholars as they live their daily lives.
  • Support women in the house in their daily life, motherhood, and educational endeavors
  • Host family dinners on Tuesday nights, creating an inclusive and warm environment
  • Live-in overnight house coverage with own room and bathroom
  • Communicate frequently with our scholars to review and address general problems and responsibilities of group living
  • Upkeep and maintenance of the house (reporting maintenance to the landlord, setting standards for cleanliness and order in the home, etc.)
  • Uphold house rules including visiting policy, curfew, chores, etc.
  • Attend meetings with an Ella’s House staff member once a month (subject to change—timing is flexible)
  • Purchase general supplies for the home and ensure backstock in the laundry room.
  • Submit receipts and documented maintenance issues to the Executive Director
  • Act as point of contact for emergency resident needs including late entry, etc.

Qualifications

The perfect candidate for this position will believe in the mission of Ella’s House, be responsible and tidy, have excellent communication skills, and be able to interact and live with a variety of people.

Qualifications are as follows:

  • At least some college 
  • Warm and caring presence
  • Able to move up to 30lbs and navigate stairs
  • Has own transportation
  • Loves babies, mamas, and education
  • Is able to diffuse tense situations and has the maturity to navigate communal living
