Job Summary
Nashville Tree Conservation Corps is a 501(c)(3) organization with a mission to promote, preserve, protect, and plant the urban tree canopy of Nashville, TN. NTCC continues to promote the planting of trees through its annual tree sale. This program moves 500-800 trees every year into Nashville’s neighborhoods. In addition to these tree sale trees, we conduct public tree planting events and tree plantings utilizing various awarded grant funding.
NTCC is seeking an outstanding individual who would primarily support this core program, the tree planting activities of the organization, and the administrative tasks generated by these activities. This position will also serve as general point of contact and liaison with various organizational key stakeholders and support general administrative needs of the organization’s leadership. Ideally, we are looking for a candidate that has an intense passion for the organization’s mission, making Nashville a better more livable place, love of nature, and the energy and vision to smoothly scale our tree planting capabilities to new record-breaking precedents.
This Operations Manager will be a good steward to the organization’s day-to-day tasks as leadership moves forward with implementing its strategic objectives. This is a work-from-home position with the requirement to occasionally attend in-person meetings or over-see tree sale operations.
Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for organizing tree sale orders and interfacing with sub-contracted delivery and planting services
- Responsible for submitting tree planting addresses to 811 service request center before trees are planted and mails tree planting flags for trees to patrons who ordered tree planting service
- Handles changing situations with an ‘adapt, improvise, and overcome’ mentality when something doesn’t go as planned logistically with an order(s)—this position has to see that every tree ordered is fulfilled
- Manages customer service inquiries generated by tree sale activities and responds to general tree questions that come into our help email inbox with outstanding professionalism representing the organization’s brand
- Files monthly taxes generated by the retail activities of the organization and administrates remittance payments for various grants awarded to the organization
- Keeps track of monthly supplies related to tree planting activities and re-orders supplies when needed
- Works closely with tree planting stakeholders and builds strong working relationships with them in order to coordinate, plan, and plant trees with ever increasing efficiency
- Attends tree related standing meetings as a representative of NTCC and brings forth information pertaining to the organization’s activities when needed
- Assists leadership with organizing tree planting events which can sometimes entail coordinating the movement of hundreds of volunteers
- Assists leadership with various administrative tasks such as interfacing with the organization’s hired bookkeeper on categorizing expenses, submitting certain kinds of information to grants periodically, etc.
- Having a problem solving and process-oriented mindset is a must for this position; this position will work with organizational leadership frequently to continually improve the tree planting process and external volunteer/customer experience
Qualifications
- 2-3 years experience in an operations, retail management, or communication role
- Retail and procurement experience a plus
- Customer service experience a plus
- Ability to work from home with a strong wifi connection
- Reliable transportation for in-person meetings when needed
- Squarespace or general eCommerce experience to manage retail sales
- Proficiency in email marketing
- Must have a passion for trees and the NTCC mission
